Check Out The New Armadillo City Stroller by Mamas & Papas ( + Video Review )

You guy's, I have 3 kids. Honestly? It can get a little crazy around here. Not even going to lie about that! It's all good though, never a dull moment!

Like most moms, anything that simplifies my daily routine {especially when it comes to getting out and about} is W E L C O M E D gleefully

Though I [admittedly] have fallen in love with many of the strollers currently on the market (they all serve there own individual purpose, you know?)  I factually need a stroller that can;
  • easily fold,
  • easily be stowed away in my trunk (I have a pretty big SUV, you wouldn't think that would be an issue, right? WRONG. Strollers are BIG these days!)
  • easily maneuver when I'm out and about in the city, yet still handle well on simple walks around my neighborhood.
  • Oh, and the compact design can, in no way, hamper the comfort of my little guy.
Pretty tall order, right? Guess what?  It's all been neatly packed into the design of the fabulous new Armadillo City Stroller, by Mamas & Papas. Seriously, it's all there:
  • A super compact footprint - just 20" W x 37" L when open! It folds fairly flat too ( just 9" D when folded). {{Think about the possibilities! You won't take out all of the racks in the department stores! You can whiz in and out of foot traffic on busy city sidewalks! And the subway/bus? Both are a cinch to navigate with the Armadillo City!}}
  • The large Canopy
  • The Sun Smart 50 UPF Fabric to protect baby from the sun.
  • The near-flat recline
  • The reinforced seat (that helps to eliminate sway while in motion)
  • The five point safety harness
  • The ultra-luxe padded seat (check it out in the video below)
  • The spring-loaded simple break system (Hello, summer sandals - your tootsies are safe with this one!)
  •  The simple one handed fold  [not to mention the fact that it remains free-standing while your folding it. AND it folds inward, protecting all of the area's that baby comes into contact with from street grime and unsavory surfaces!]
  • The included rain cover [it's super simple to put on too!]
  • The wrist tether to secure the stroller while navigating heavy foot traffic and traffic in urban area's.
People, honestly? The list of fabulous features in the Armadillo City Stroller goes on...and on...and on! Check our our hands-on-video review below for more on this new gem of a stroller by Mamas & Papas.

The Armadillo City stroller is recommend from birth - 50 LBS. It currently retails for $269.99. You can find the Armadillo City at
select retailers nationwide and online at :

We love the endless entertainment options that streaming offers our family - and as a mom, I enjoy that most of those options are more easily managed. I don't want my kids watching anything and everything that comes on Television these days, you know? I also enjoy that most of the entertainment options are commercial free. Head To LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester For A Fun Day Out With The Kids

$

BRR!!! It's cold! It feels like the Winter has officially arrived here in the Northeast part of the country. You know what that means? It's time to find indoor activities and outdoor winter sports/activities to keep the kids occupied.

If your looking for a fun indoor activity to do with the kids, head to LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Westchester. So much fun you guys! Our kids (as most kids their ages) are obsessed with all things LEGO. They can't get enough! They can build and build for hours on end.

We spent a day exploring at LEGOLAND Discovery center recently and I have to say, it's pretty amazing. When you step inside the bright entrance of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester, be prepared to be amazed at every turn.  Just walking through "Miniland" will leave you in awe! I definitely have a huge respect for the impressive creations in this exhibit and the builders behind them.

Take in the HUGE {lighted} models of New York City landmarks and other fun statues, or hop on one of the indoor rides (there are 2 at this location).  You can also train to be a LEGO Master Builder!  Kids can spend an hour in a LEGO Master Builder's class (there are several throughout the day) learning how to build the creation of the day with precision . After the class is over, kids can keep their creation with a small donation of $5. The donation benefits a local charity;  the kids have a blast + it's for a great cause - it's a win-win for everyone!

Girl's will have a blast in the LEGO Friends area. They can partake in a little building fun or belt out a tune in the Karaoke station! The younger LEGO fans in training will delight in exploring the LEGO Duplo section,  which boasts a large slide and a pit of giant foam LEGO Bricks! There's also a large play center in the center of it all for kids to climb and slide  til' their hearts' content.

If you get hungry while you're there, no worries! There are so many healthy (affordable) options in the small food court inside of the Discovery Center. There are also several restaurants within a short walking distance just outside of the Discovery Center, as it's located in Ridge Hill.

All of this and MORE. Seriously, there's so much fun to be had at this place!

Check out our pics from our day at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester below.

Clothespin Christmas Wreath Kids Craft Tutorial

$

We are amping up the Christmas spirit in our house this week. We have all of the Christmas decorations down from the attic and we're ready for some decorating!

We spend a huge part of the  holiday season crafting and baking, and we've already started. Last weekend my daughter made this super simple {super cute} Clothespin Christmas Wreath. All you need are a few simple supplies, and about 20 minutes. Keep in mind that the drying time for the paint adds to that time slightly

What you'll need:

  • About 75 clothespins  (if making a 8 inch Christmas Wreath - of course you'll need more or less depending on the size of the wreath you're making)
  • Light green, dark green, and red  paint r(we used Folk Art Multi-Surface paint however you can use washable kids paint too - we like Crayola's version)
  • Elmer's Foam Project Board (to cut out your 8" x 1" wreath form - this step should be completed by an adult)
  • Scissors (heavy duty)
  • Paint Brush
  • Water for rinsing your brush
  • 2 Wooden Hearts and 1 small wooden circle to create bow (see image below - we found ours at A.C. Moore for .29 cents each.
  • Heavy craft glue ( we use Aileen's)
  • A piece of ribbon - about 18" long (to create a hanger for your wreath)
How-to:
  • Paint half of your clothespins dark green and the other half a lighter shade of green. Allow time to dry.
  • Paint your wooden hearts and circle red. Allow time to dry.
  • Cut out your 8" x 1" wreath form - this step should be completed by an adult
  • Clip your dry clothespins onto your wreath form in sets of two (2 dark, 2 light etc.) all the way around the form until all of the clothespins are affixed (see image). You can add a dab of glue to the inside of each clothespin for added security (optional).
  • Glue hearts and circle as pictured to create the bow for your wreath.
  • Create a hanger using ribbon

Hang your finished wreath & enjoy!

Happy Holidays & Happy Crafting Everyone!

If only we could  bottle time.

I know all too well that while the days can seem long, the years are indeed very short. Way too short, my friends.

Above: My first, a few years back.
This is my oldest. My serious but kind little man. Gone are those baby face days. He is getting so tall now. He is {almost} looking  me straight in the eye.  I don't know where the time went you guy's. It's surreal to me.
Above: My first, a  few months ago with my youngest.
Above: My second, a few years ago.
This is my second. My little diva. She's been smiling and making me smile every single day, since the day she was born. I don't quite know when it happened, but I blinked, and she wasn't a baby anymore.
Above: My second, a few months ago.
Above, my third, a few months ago.
This is my third. My sweet, laid back baby boy. He's 9 months old now and he's changing so rapidly with each passing day. I know all too well that he'll be grown before I know it. So, I am actively savoring and cherishing every single moment.
Above: my third, last week.
These three. They are my world. I would do absolutely anything for them. Anything.
Because we still haven't found a way to bottle time or make it stand still, we are planning now for their futures. LEAF is helping to simplify that process a little bit,  with their new LEAF College Savings Gift Cards.

Whether your purchasing them towards your children's future education goals or your gifting them to someone near and dear, LEAF Gift Cards really are the perfect gift this holiday season. Especially with the ever-rising costs of higher-education. Every little bit helps!

You can purchase LEAF College Savings Gift Cards at www.leafsavings.com in whole dollar amounts between $25-$1,000. The recipient (or their parents) can then redeem the cards easily on the LEAF website and transfer the full face value into any 529 college savings plan within the U.S.  Purchasers can send a LEAF card four ways: email, Facebook post, physical gift card (which are mailed via USPS to the purchaser or recipient), or you can choose to print your gift card out at the time of purchase; how's that for convenient?

If the gift recipient doesn't already have a 529 savings plan, don't worry, they can still redeem the gift card . LEAF College Savings Gift Cards are issued by CBW Bank which is a member of the FDIC. You can rest assured that when you purchase a LEAF Card, the funds are FDIC-insured throughout the process; from purchase, to redemption and transfer.

LEAF College Savings makes saving for college simple, secure and social. We think that what LEAF is doing to help make it easier for friends and family to gift towards their loved ones' higher education, is pretty fabulous!

3 Simple Christmas Crafts To Do With The Kids This Holiday Season

$

I love the holiday season! Christmas lights, hot chocolate, baking, crafts .... it's my absolute favorite time of year!

My kids and I had a ton of fun making a few simple ( I mean it- super easy!) kids Christmas crafts this past week. Each craft only requires simple materials (some of which you most likely already have on hand ) and about 20 minutes.

Every one of these cute kids Christmas crafts would make adorable handmade presents for the kids to gift this holiday season too.

What you'll need:

UPCYCLED TIN CAN SNOWMAN STACKER HOLIDAY KIDS CRAFT
  • Paint brush
  • Small cup of water to wash your brush
  • Newspaper or cloth to cover your work surface
  • 2 Pompoms in your choice of color (to make earmuffs)  refer to image - affix with glue.
  • 1 Pipe Cleaner (for your earmuffs - refer to image) - affix with glue
  • Heavy craft glue or low-temp hot glue gun & glue sticks (if using a low temp hot glue gun - adults should do all of the steps that require gluing)
  • 2 Upcycled tin cans. Clean and dry the inside of the can (use 2 varying sizes - 1 slightly smaller than than the other so you can stack them and affix them together with glue after they have both been painted - use either low-temp hot glue or heavy craft glue. If using hot glue - an adult should complete this step)
  • White, pink, black, and orange multi-surface paint (or washable kids paint mixed with a small amount of Modge Podge). Paint the entire surface of both cans with white multi-surface paint. Allow to dry. Paint the face of your snowman allow time for drying.
  • Felt in your choice of colors (cut thin strips to fit around the can to create your snowman's scarf - fringe on the end with scissors - affix with heavy craft glue or low temp hot glue gun. Next, cut a circle large enough to cover the base of your snowman (the bottom can) and affix with glue or a low-temp hot glue gun (this will protect the surface that you set it on from scratching).
POTTED PINE CONE CHRISTMAS TREE'S KIDS CRAFT
  • Small terracotta pots (1 for each of your "trees" - we found ours for .39 cents each at A.C. Moore.
  • Paint brush (and a small cup of water to rinse your brush)
  • Pine cones in various sizes
  • Green and white multi-surface paint or  green and white washable kids paint mixed with a small amount of Modge Podge. Paint your pine cones green. Allow time for drying. Paint the tips of the pine cone white for "flocking". Allow Adequate time for drying.
  • Heavy craft glue or low-temp hot glue gun and glue sticks (if using a low-temp hot glue gun an adult should complete this step) Glue the painted pine cone at the base into the terracotta pot. Allow adequate time for drying.
  • Small Jingle Bells or Small Pom Poms (you could even use puffy paint for smaller children). Affix using heavy glue or low-temp hot glue to create the Christmas ornaments on your trees. Or if your using puffy paint, dot small amounts of various colors on the tips of the pine cone. Allow adequate time for drying.
Handprint Snowman Ornaments Holiday Kids Craft
  • Christmas ball (we used a clear non-breakable ornament for the pictured ornament above - we found ours at A.C. Moore for $1 each. You could also use a silver or color ornament as well.  Remove the hanger from the ball temporarily so that you will be able to set the ball on it's top to dry (place the hanger back on the ball at the end after the ball is dry and complete).
  • Paint brush
  • White Multi-Surface Paint
  • Baby wipe or wet paper towel (to wipe off some of the paint from your child's hand before they make it to the sink)
  • Sharpie Permanent Markers (Black, Orange, Pink, Blue, Green - or other colors of choice)
  • Paint your child's had white with the multi-surface paint. Sit the ball in the palm of their hand and have them wrap their fingers up onto the surface of the ball to capture their full hand print. Set the ball down on it's top (where you removed the hanger) to dry.
  • Once dry - have the kids decorate each of their fingerprint "snowmen" with hats, scarves, earmuffs, eyes and mouth,  a carrot nose etc. For an extra special touch have your child write their name, age, and year on the bottom of their handprint snowman ornaments.
  • Replace hanger in ornament once your Handprint Snowman Ornaments are dry

We hope that everyone has a magical holiday season! Happy Crafting!

My Miracle #BabysFirstRideHome

This is my first born.

He made me a mommy. While all three of my children have taught me amazing invaluable lessons, he taught me how to be a mother. In those first few weeks after he was born, I learned things about myself that I never thought possible. The unconditional, insurmountable amounts of love that motherhood ushers in, is indescribable.  Just indescribable.

I will never forget those first few days after he was born. We spent three days in the hospital.  The night before we went home, he stayed in the room with me all night. I barely slept. Not because he was fussy; he was actually quite laid back. I just couldn't take my eyes off of him. He was perfect.

The next day, when it was time to leave the hospital, I found myself in a bit of an unexpected state of panic. My husband had gone to retrieve the car and we found ourselves alone in a quiet moment, while we were waiting for the nurse to come in with the wheelchair. A Nun passed by the room and she must have seen the look of distress on my face. She told me how beautiful the baby was and asked how I was feeling. In that moment I broke down. I told her how scared I was and how fearful I was that I would make a mistake.

What she said next, I will remember for the rest of my life.

She said "dear, do you know how many millions of things had to align in the universe, for you to be holding that beautiful child in your arms today? It was no mistake. He is your miracle. Every child is a miracle. You are truly blessed and you will do just fine." It took my breath away.

Honestly, it didn't instantly eliminate every fear that I had of motherhood, it certainly changed my perspective though. While I'm sure that I shuddered with every bump and turn that we took on our way home that day, I was more confident in my own personal abilities to mother.

After all, he was {and is} my miracle.
Motherhood.  It's an all-encompassing, ever-changing journey. While the road can definitely get bumpy and there aren't any road-maps in parenting, never fear  When you’re in the trenches of daily life with your new bundle of joy, and you can't get out and about for the essentials, Diapers.com is just a click or phone call away. They're super FAST too! Diapers.com offers free overnight delivery of baby care essentials in the NYC area [$49 minimum].

New York City families that welcome newborns in the month of December can receive a free ride home (up to $50), compliments of Diapers.com. AMAZING, right? That's why we love Diapers.com. I have so much love for brands that show love to their consumers. I don't see that often these days, so when I do, it definitely brings a big smile to my face.

She's Back! Samantha Parkington Joins The American Girl Beforever Line [ Video Review / Unboxing + Giveaway ]

You guy's, I can't even tell you how excited I am that American Girl brought the Samantha Parkington Doll and line of accessories back with their introduction of American Girl Beforever!

I will never forget pouring over the pages of the classic story collection for Samantha years ago as a child [back when American Girl was Pleasant Company]. Receiving my Samantha doll on Christmas, is one of my most beloved childhood holiday memories. Having the ability to share this special doll and her story-line with my daughter, is definitely one of those full circle experiences for me as a mother.

The concept of American Girl Beforever introduces the story-line of each American Girl Historic character from the perspective or in the "voice" of a modern girl. Thus helping to keep the historically accurate story-line's engaging and relevant for girls today.

The covers and illustrations of the American Girl historical line have been re-imagined / updated with the Beforever makeover. What does that mean you ask? In addition to the reintroduction of the Samantha Parkington Doll, it means a ton of fun new outfits and accessories [along with some old favorites] and updates to the books/story-line's of each historical character.
We are ecstatic to see the reintroduction of the Samantha Parkington doll and accessories! Check out our hands-on review/unboxing in the video below.
The 18" Samantha Parkington Doll & Book is one of our Top 2014 Holiday Gift Picks! She is available at American Girl retail locations nationwide and online at www.americangirl.com

Holiday Family Fun At Sesame Place: A Very Furry Christmas

Looking for something fun to do with the kids this Holiday season? Head to A Very Furry Christmas, at Sesame Place.

We made our way to Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA this weekend for their annual holiday celebration, A Very Furry Christmas. While it was definitely a little chilly, it was totally worth the trip!

The entire park is brought to life during the holiday season with thousands of brightly colored, twinkling lights and decorations. The friendly furry cast of Sesame Street is also at the ready to put everyone in a festive mood!

When you enter the gates of the park, your immediately greeted with an enormous Christmas tree. It's more than your average Christmas tree though! The beautiful display springs to life several times throughout the day with lights, characters, and holiday carols, in the 1-2-3 Christmas Tree Show.
We arrived 45 minutes before the first Neighborhood Street Party parade was set to start (there are 2 most days - 4:30 PM & 8 PM).

While we managed to squeeze into a fairly decent spot to spectate, we definitely underestimated the large volume of visitors on the day of our visit. There was quite a crowd already lining the parade route, when we arrived. My best advice would be to find a good spot about an hour in advance, if you are visiting on a busy day.

Our youngest was delighted at the mere sight of Elmo and Cookie Monster and our older two children enjoyed it just as much. After the parade was over, we let the kids hop on a couple of the open rides. If possible, I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the "Abby's Magic Que" [additional fees apply]. It allows you to bypass the long lines for rides and offers up reserved seating at one show; Elmo The Musical Live. While there are 3 fun holiday themed shows offered throughout the park for A Very Furry Christmas, it can be challenging to navigate the long lines and wait-times in the colder temperatures {especially with with little ones}. Had A Blast Stocking The #KmartCarts In NYC with Marlo Thomas For St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Yesterday, I, had the privilege of stocking the #KmartCarts at the Penn Station Kmart,  in Manhattan. Carts were filled to the brim with tons of special goodies, for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital this holiday season.

Mid-way through piling toys into my cart, I paused when I noticed that much of what I had placed in the cart was geared towards young girls. My daughter was on my mind and it was reflecting in my gift selections.

My lulu.

I will never everforget the helplessness that I felt as a parent,  when she was 3 years old.

Shortly after this picture was taken, she suddenly lost her voice. We took her to the pediatrician. He prescribed a round of antibiotics; thinking it was just a virus. But her voice never quiet returned. Weeks went by and it just wasn't getting better. She was raspy at best and by the end of most days, she could barely speak. We went back and forth to the doctors office. They ticked off the boxes of possible causes, never really pinning one down.

Then one day, it got noticeably worse. We took her to the E.R..

We explained all of the issues that she had been having.  After hours of sitting in the emergency room, they sent us home. The doctor remarked, "she doesn't have a fever, so she's most likely OK". I would later find out that the hospital that we visited that night didn't have the equipment or medical staff to scope a toddler. Rather than point us to another, more well equipped hospital, they sent us home.

Had I not had the instinct to take her to another hospital, things could be much different today.

Over the next few weeks, with the help of a Pediatric ENT, we discovered that my daughter had a mass growing on her vocal fold. They removed it swiftly and she's healthy, thriving, and happy today. That doctor has my lifelong gratitude; she is our angel.
As I packed the cart in Kmart yesterday, I was actively thinking of all of the children and their families, who are still on a journey back towards health this holiday season. For many of them, the road is long.  They are bravely fighting though and I have so much admiration for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for bravely fighting for, and alongside, all of these precious kids.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of  St. Jude's founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.
Kmart has been St. Jude's leading corporate partner in the history of St. Jude Hospital. They have raised a remarkable amount of money for St Jude since their partnership began in 2006. Over $72.2 million through in-store and online donations; just amazing!

They are on the path to another great year in donations this year too; having already raised more than $13 million for St. Jude, this holiday season!

Kmart makes it super simple to add a donation for St. Jude to your purchase when you checkout, at any of their retail locations nationwide and online. Shop Your Way Rewards members even receive a reward for donating! When a member makes a donation to St. Jude at Kmart before December 27th, 2014, they will receive  a coupon valid for 5% back in points on their next in-store or online purchase (Maximum $20 in points - 20, 000 in points. Restrictions apply).

As a result of this event, over $10,000 in toys were donated yesterday for families who will spend the holidays this year, at St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. They are currently en route to the hospital in Memphis.

My deepest thanks to Kmart for allowing me the opportunity to participate in yesterday's event, for such an amazing cause. It was an honor.

DID YOU KNOW?
In 2013, Kmart Shop Your Way members and customers donated a record $21.9 million to St. Jude - the single largest corporate partner donation ever to the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign.

Kmart has raised more than $72.2 million for St. Jude through in-store and online donations. St. Jude recognized Kmart, a partner since 2006, as its Corporate Partner of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2013, and last year honored Kmart with the "Extraordinary Partner Performance Award," recognizing its record-breaking fundraising achievement.

Funds raised support research and treatment by St. Jude to end childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases

Sharing Our Love Of American Girl with RTL Germany PUNKT 12

American Girl is special in our home.

It was so very special to me as a child (back when it was Pleasant Company).  It has been beyond fun watching my daughter fall in love with all of the story-line's, along with all of the gorgeous dolls and accessories too.  It really has been one of those full-circle experiences for me, as a mother.

I have said it time and time again, but I will say it again. There is just something about the concept of American Girl, that is truly timeless.

We had such a great time yesterday sharing our love for all things American Girl, with the wonderful folks from RTL Germany Punkt 12!

American Girl's story-line's feature strong determined young girls from various time periods and the messages that they are sending, are clear across the board. Be bold. Be strong. Be brave. Be fearless. Stand up for your beliefs. Be a good friend. Be honest. Work hard. I could go on and on, but you get my point, right? This is a brand that is teaching young girls, to expect nothing less than greatness. What mother wouldn't want to impart that message to their young daughter?

Our daughter has gleaned SO much from American Girl over the years and she had such a wonderful time sharing it all, with the folks from RTL Germany yesterday. We can't wait to see how it turns out!

The segment will be airing in Germany sometime next week. We'll share a link when it's available!

A Year Of Unforgettable Milestones + Incredible @Pampers Deal #BRUMilestones

This is a sponsored post. Thank you for supporting One Savvy Mom.
This entire year has been a year of firsts for our family. Collectively, it has been incredibly eye-opening, grounding, and magical.

I was younger when my first two children were born.  I can admit without any reservation that I definitely saw things through a different lens. Family members and passerby would often remark how "they grow up so fast! Enjoy it while they're little!" I would nod politely in agreement, though in all honesty, I didn't really know what they meant.

I didn't grasp the wisdom that they were imparting because it's something that you have to experience for yourself, to really understand. And I did eventually. I looked up one day and I understood completely. Our daughter had just turned 5 (and our son was 7 at the time). They were both now out of the toddler stage and I found myself in a quiet moment trying to figure out where the time had gone. In all honesty, I wish I would have slowed down to enjoy it more. I wish I would have embraced the chaos; it only lasts for such a brief moment in time.

When our little man came along last year,  I promised myself that I would breath in each and every moment. I would savor it all. Even the sleepless nights. Because after all, it only lasts for such a brief moment in time.

I slowed down with work. I rearranged my priorities a bit and I spent 2014 actively cherishing the small things and I'm so glad that I did.

He ate his first spoons of cereal with a big smile!

We had a house full of superheroes for Halloween this year. It was our first themed Halloween and we all had a blast!
Baby's First Christmas: He was mesmerized by all of the Holiday lights.

Then, on the first day of the new year he crawled clear across the room unprompted, to his daddy. He was so proud of himself! He sat up and clapped when he reached his destination.

This past year has been incredible. It has definitely given me a fresh perspective on motherhood.  Before we know it, he'll be walking and talking.

I am busy planning his first birthday, which is just a few weeks away. Nothing huge. A few new toys to unwrap and explore,  a visit to Sesame Street Live, and a cake to celebrate this new milestone. One year old!

It's a brand new year and we are all so excited to see what year two brings!

30 Minute Crafts: How To Make Felt Flowers 3 Ways + Felt Flower Wreath Tutorial

Looking for a quick & easy project? Felt flowers are super simple to make - not to mention incredibly cost efficient! Take a look below for detailed instructions (and pictures) on how to make 3 different kinds of felt flowers and a pretty wreath for your front door. The best part? The total cost for this project is only $5!

We used our felt flowers to make a pretty wreath for our front door. I picked up 6 pieces of ivory felt at .29 cents ea. (though you could make your flowers in any color you prefer) and this grapevine wreath for just $2.50 in the floral department at A.C. MOORE.

Tip: Think ahead and print out one of the high value coupons on the A.C. MOORE website to make this project even more cost efficient!

HOW-TO:
Below you'll find image tutorials on how to make felt roses, felt loop flowers, and felt fringe flowers. When you roll your flowers to assemble them, you can either use an embroidery needle and thread or hot glue (low temp hot glue gun required) to keep them together. To sew them together, simple pull your needle and thread through all of the layers at the center (and repeat a few times). OR We've found that hot glue is the quickest and easiest way to keep them together, and they hold up perfectly! Simple add a dab of hot glue to the end of the flower after it is rolled tightly (see image below). Optional: Add a pretty pearl to the center of your flowers (using a low temp hot glue gun).

HOW TO MAKE FELT ROSES:

HOW TO MAKE FELT LOOP FLOWERS:
NOTE: You can choose to make these as small or large as you would like simply fold your felt in half. Make your cuts every quarter inch (not going quiet to the bottom - see image- and roll tightly).

HOW TO MAKE FELT FRINGE FLOWERS:

We used our felt flowers to make a cluster wreath. You can add a pretty bow or keep it as is. It's perfect for your front door (if you have a storm door to protect it from the elements) or for decorative purposes within your home.

Our assembled wreath with ribbon (we purchased a 12 yard. spool of ivory grosgrain ribbon at Walmart for $1).

Happy Crafting!

Super Sprowtz: RAW - New Brooklyn Based Cooking Show Encourages Kids To Make Healthy Choices

Have a picky eater in your home? Just looking to make healthier choices as a family?

You'll definitely want to check out the fun new cooking show from Super Sprowtz; Super Sprowtz RAW!
Super Sprowtz is teaching kids the importance of making healthy food choices and how different foods help to fuel our bodies (i.e. Colby Carrots super power is "Super Sight").  They are also helping children and their families put that new knowledge into action, by introducing healthy recipes in each episode of their new cooking series; Super Sprowtz: RAW.

I sat down to watch the first episode with my kids and they were definitely engaged, as was I! I love how difficult concepts and advanced vocabulary is broken down for young audience members. In my opinion, incorporating children into the farm/garden/store-to-table process is a crucial element in developing life-long healthy nutritional choices.

In episode 1, Roger and the Super Sprowtz head to a farm (in Upstate New York) to gather the vegetables for their vegetable casserole. Zack Zucchini gives Roger some facts and tips on Zucchini picking, then Todd the Tomato calls Roger. Todd rattles off a long winded explanation on phytonutrients and Lycopene. Then Roger "chops it up into bite size pieces" for young viewers to better understand.  Simply stating -  Lycopene protects your stomach, "like a shield from germs".

Overall, Super Sprowtz: RAW is sending kids a valuable message, using a highly relatable platform.  The message? EAT YOUR SUPERPOWERS! Want to be "super-strong" well then, eat your (Brian) Broccoli! Want to be "Super Smart"?  (Erica) Eggplant is the way to go!
We are loving the concept of Super Sprowtz: RAW. The episodes are the perfect length for young viewers too; the first episode is just over 9 minutes long.

We can't wait to tune in next Thursday to catch the rest of the recipe for veggie casserole, with special celebrity guest, Chef  Sam Talbot!

Check out the first episode of Super Sprowtz RAW - "Into The Fridge" below.

More About Super Sprowtz:

Save Your Budget The Couponing Way

$

Budgeting for a family can be quite a challenge! Not only are there a lot of expenses involved in raising a family, but you also want to make sure you are saving for the future. It is so important to make a reasonable budget and stick to it. However, one of the most cost-effective ways to ensure that your family has enough to meet daily demands AND build a savings, is through couponing.

Here are some of the best ways to get started with first creating and then improving your budget through coupons.

Creating a Budget
In order to make a reasonable budget, you will need to take an honest look at how you are currently spending money. Consider what absolute necessities are. For families with young children, this probably includes baby care items, meal items, childcare, and transportation costs. Next consider what luxury items you might be purchasing. This might include an elaborate cable package, your cell phone plan, and restaurant purchases. Once you have a sense of what items are essential and what items are luxury, start determining how much each is costing you.

There are a number of different ways to estimate the costs of these various items. One of the best ways is to refer back to your debit card statement and identify specific purchases. Another method is to look for your receipts. The more accurate you can be with your estimations, the more likely you are to succeed with your new budget.

Once you have a good sense of where your money is going, take a look at your income sources. Calculate how much money is coming into your household each month. Then take a look at the expenses. If your expenses outweigh your income, it is crucial to find areas to cut back on spending. Even if your income is meeting your expenses, you will want to adjust your spending habits to find a little extra for savings. To find out where you can make that space, go first to the luxury list. Determine what can be sacrificed and downgraded. Next, take a look at the necessities list and decide if anything can be cut back or better managed. Make a plan for how much you would like to spend for each category on your list and strive to stick to that plan.

Finding Extra Money
One budget area, which has the most potential for better management, is groceries. Couponing has grown in popularity in recent years and for good reason. A family can save dramatically on the grocery store bill with a bit of planning and research. Here is what you need to do in order to utilize couponing to find some extra money in your budget.

First, check out the coupon policy for your local supermarket. Make sure you understand their rules regarding coupon doubling and items per transaction. Next, browse the internet for coupons related to either your particular store or to the items you like to buy. There is a large community of couponers online which give tips and strategies for finding those coupons. Finally, print, clip, and head down to the store. Be sure you've done the math carefully and checked for relevant sales. You will know you've done a great job once you step out of that store with $200 worth of product for less than $50. Couponing is a great way to boost your budget.

Do You Want To Build A Snowman? #BRUMilestones [+ Giveaway]

This is a sponsored post. Thank you for supporting One Savvy Mom.

I know what you're thinking. Another "Frozen" reference?Really? But I couldn't resist!

This was the scene in our backyard after the storm came in and blanketed everything in a fresh coat of snow. Our older two children and my husband built a giant snowman ... though we didn't have any suitably sized carrots or anything creative for the eyes and buttons.  So, I grabbed some craft foam, a few pipe cleaners, and a pair of scissors!

Everyone was ready to warm up and had already come inside, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to introduce our new snow friend to our little guy! I layered on the snow suit, gloves, hat and coat, so that he could get a proper introduction to his very first snowman. We took a few quick pictures ... then it was back inside to warm up.

It was a quick encounter for him but he was absolutely delighted.  As you can see from the picture above, he was all smiles!

Now, the next big milestone and his last "first" holiday before he turns one, is just a few weeks away. We wanted to commemorate the holiday in a special way, so we made a fun chalkboard plaque with his handprint and footprints last weekend (image below).

I think it's a sweet way to remember his fist Valentine's Day.

We found the chalkboard plaque with twine hanger ($3) and the red and white paint (.50 cents each -make sure it's non-toxic and washable), at A.C. Moore.  Just make sure to have plenty of Pampers sensitive baby wipes on hand, to wipe the excess paint off right away! A wiggly baby and paint can definitely present a challenge!

We always keep a stockpile of Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes on hand. They're great for cleaning up, just about everything. From diaper changes, to dirty faces, to messy hands (and feet) after crafting... they're my go-to. It's really no surprise to me that they (along with Pampers Swaddlers) just won the 2015 What To Expect Mom's Love It Award!

If you haven't tried them yet (or you have and you love them too), now is a great time to stock up! Between now and February 21, 2015, you can save 15% off any two select Procter & Gamble items listed below.

Ready to stock up and save? We have a prize pack for (1) One Savvy Mom reader!

The Prize pack includes:
(1) $50 Babies "R" Us Gift Card
(2) Packages of Pampers Wipes
(1) Babies "R" Us Changing Station Pad
(1) Babies "R" Us 2-in-1 food tote

She's arrived! The 2015 American Girl of the Year, Grace Thomas, is available NOW!

The beautiful 18” Grace Thomas American Girl doll arrives as you see her pictured above. She comes in an chic ensemble, with super cute grey boots, and a beautiful little charm bracelet. She is also packaged with the first self-titled book in her story-line – GRACE.

Grace, by Mary Casanova, introduces young readers to this ambitious young 9 year old girl. Grace has an entrepreneurial spirit and big aspirations! In this book, Grace kicks off her summer with plans to embark on a new business venture with her friends. However, her plans are put on hold when her mom announces that they will be traveling to Paris France for the Summer, to visit with relatives.

We are so excited to see that this year's girl of the year will have 3 books in her story-line; all authored by Mary Casanova! Grace, Grace Stirs It Up, and Grace Makes It Great (May 2015). We really enjoyed the first book in Grace's story-line.  My daughter is now half way through Grace Stirs It Up, and she loves it so far. As a mom, I really appreciate Mary Casanova's writing style. She authored McKenna's story-line, American Girl's 2012 Girl of the Year, and my daughter was so inspired, she took up Gymnastics. She's developed quite a passion for it too! I am so grateful that she was inspired to step outside of her comfort zone and pursue something that she may not have tried otherwise.
That's what I love about American Girl; they are constantly encouraging young girls in positive ways, through their story-line's and initiatives!

With Paris in her story-line, you know that fashion is going to play a major role in the Girl of the Year's fashion choices – and we absolutely adore all of the chic outfits available for Grace!
American Girl has some impressive accessories available this year too. They are offering Grace's French Bakery (with over 60 accessories), a French Bistro Set, and Grace's Bakery cart this year. So, girls have plenty of options that are available at various price-points, to play out Grace's story through imaginative doll play.

American Girl always incorporates an initiative into their Girl of the Year.  This year keeping with the theme of entrepreneurship and baking, American Girl has kicked off a 1 year effort "For Goodness Bake", to help No Kid Hungry (NoKidHungry.org) stamp out hunger- right here in the United States. No Kid Hungry helps supply children in need, with much needed meals. American Girl is encouraging girls to sign up to host their own local bake sale, and donate the precedes to No Kid Hungry, which we think is AMAZING! We have already signed up! We will be hosting our bake sale at our local YMCA.  American Girl made the first sizable donation ( $50,000 ) and now are encouraging young girls and their families to help take a stand against child hunger too. For every $1 donated, NoKidHungry.orgis able to supply a child in need with up to 10 meals.

As if we weren't already ecstatic about all that American Girl is offering surrounding the 2015 American Girl of the year, there's MORE! Girl's can try their hand at baking french favorites with the professionals at Sur La Tablethis year! Girl's and their parents can sign up for a class where they will learn how to make eclairs, frosted Eiffel Tower Sugar Cookies and Apple Tarts. How fun is that! Girl's who attend will receive a gift bag that includes an American Girl Apron, an Eiffel Tower Cookie Cutter, and more.
